Cornel Windlin

Cornel Windlin (* 1964 in Lucerne ; legal resident in Kerns , Obwalden ) is a Swiss graphic designer, poster and font designer.

Life

Windlin graduated from the Lucerne School of Design and worked for Neville Brody in London from 1988 . From 1990 he was the art director of The Face magazine, started his own business in 1991 and returned to Switzerland in 1993.

For the 2009/10 season he was responsible for the conception of the new overall appearance of the Schauspielhaus Zürich under the direction of Christoph Marthaler and Barbara Frey . The design included the corporate font and website as well as the posters, programs, flyers and tickets for the performances, for which he was supported by Gregor Huber and Rafael Koch . In 2011 he was awarded the Swiss Design Prize , which honors “outstanding Swiss design” every two years in various categories. For the 2010/11 season, the Lucerne agency Velvet was commissioned to continue.

He gained fame primarily through his work, which received several awards, as well as through exhibitions and lectures. Together with Stephan Müller, he founded the Lineto publishing house in 1994. Lineto.com developed over the years into a network of designers in Switzerland, New York, London, Tokyo, Stockholm, Vienna and Berlin. Since 2004 he has been responsible for the conception and visual design of the Vitra Home Collection. From 2007 to 2010 Windlin was President of the Jury for the Most Beautiful Swiss Books , replacing François Rappo in this role .

Windlin lives in Berlin.
