Cornuvia serpula is a species of slime mold from the order of the Trichiida and the only species of the genus Cornuvia . It is considered rare.

description

The plasmodium is creamy white. The fruiting bodies are either approximately round sporocarps or small branched or reticulated plasmodiocarps , sessile and bright golden yellow. The pale yellow peridium is membranous and delicate. The scalp is a loose, slack network of yellow threads that are 3 to 5 micrometers thick, the ends are occasionally or often not overgrown. The threads are sculptured with clearly defined rings, which are either grouped at intervals or arranged irregularly, but are smooth between the rings and at the nodes.

As a mass, the spores are yellow, lightly networked and have a diameter of 10 to 12 micrometers.

distribution

The species is considered rare, but is widespread. Finds are known from Europe (e.g. France, Poland and Great Britain), Africa (Tanzania) and northern India. It was not known from the Neotropic until 1976.

Systematics and research history

The species was first described in 1863 by Julius Wilhelm Albert Wigand as Arcyria serpula , in 1873 Józef Tomasz Rostafiński then placed it in its own genus Cornuvia . Numerous other taxa have been described, all of which are now synonymous . The genus is therefore monotypical .
