Coro siamo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The coro siamo ( Italian for “We are choir”) was founded in 2006 by Florian Maierl in Vienna and consists of 40 young singers. From Italian madrigals and early baroque passion music, a multifaceted arc spans classical and romantic to contemporary compositions and vocal jazz. The ensemble makes regular guest appearances in the Vienna Votive Church and St. Stephen's Cathedral as well as in well-known churches in and around Linz.

repertoire

A special focus in the concert activities of the coro siamo is the demanding a cappella literature. Allegris Miserere mei is just as much a part of the repertoire as the virtuoso motets of Bruckner or the latest compositions by the Viennese Wolfgang Sauseng . The choir has also successfully performed works with orchestra and soloists - such as the baroque opera Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Bach's motet Jesus, my joy , parts from Handel's Messiah , Mozart's Requiem and masses from the Viennese classical music.

Cooperations

Intercultural exchange is a major concern of coro siamo: In spring 2008 the choir traveled to France, where they played music together with the Parisian Ensemble Bergamasque. A cooperation with the Finnish chamber choir Addictio led to concert projects in Vienna, Pregarten (Upper Austria), Helsinki and Tallinn. The choir members themselves come from different parts of Austria, from Germany, Italy, France, Portugal and Argentina.

Awards

In 2012 coro siamo achieved 2nd place with distinction in the “Austria Cantat” choir competition in Salzburg. A year later, the ensemble was recognized as the best mixed choir at the 4th international Anton Bruckner choir competition in Linz and received the special prize for the outstanding interpretation of Anton Bruckner's Christ factus est . The choir celebrated its greatest success to date in April 2014 in the Salzburg Mozarteum: From a total of 16 local choirs and vocal ensembles, the coro siamo emerged as the winner of the national election “Austria sings” and represented Austria at the opening of the Wiener Festwochen on Rathausplatz. At the international choir competition “Ave Verum” in Baden , the coro siamo 2014 came 2nd.
