Corpse Party: Blood Covered ( Japanese : コ ー プ ス パ ー テ ィ ー BloodCovered , Kōpusu Pātī BloodCovered ) is a manga series by Makoto Kedōin (text) and Toshimi Shinomiya (drawings). The series, which can be classified into the genres of horror, drama and shomen , is based on the computer game Corpse Party .
content
The manga is about a group of high school students who, after a magical ritual, suddenly find themselves separated from each other in an abandoned elementary school where a series of gruesome murders once took place. As the students desperately seek a way to escape from school, they are continually threatened by the vengeful ghosts of the children who were once killed in this school.
publication
The manga, which is aimed at a male audience, was published in Japan from 2008 to 2012 by the publisher Square Enix , first in Gangan Powered magazine and, after its placement in February 2009 in the successor magazine Gangan Joker . The start of the series coincided with the release of the game of the same name, a remake of the original Corpse Party from 1996. The plot is also closely based on that of the game, which is why the focus of the story changes between the main characters. The series comprises 47 chapters, which were summarized in 10 anthologies published between April 22, 2009 and December 22, 2012.
From October 2015 to April 2017 the manga was published in German by Egmont Manga . The Taiwanese publisher Tong Li published all volumes of the series in Chinese from 2011 to 2013. Yen Press has been publishing an English translation since May 2016 .
reception
The drawings in the manga are rather average, according to the AnimaniA : The backgrounds are often plain or left free and the style is not particularly memorable. The story followed the original in a strictly linear manner. The manga contains only a few Gore scenes, but the psychological component of the horror should not be underestimated. The series is therefore recommended for fans of The Ring , Elfen Lied or Danganronpa .
