Corryocactus apiciflorus is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet apiciflorus means 'pointed flower'.
description
Corryocactus apiciflorus grows shrubby with spreading or ascending, up to 50 centimeters long, densely thorny shoots that have a diameter of 2.5 centimeters. There are eight low ribs . The single central spine is up to 1 centimeter long. The approximately 10 outspread radial spines are also up to 1 centimeter long.
The red flowers are up to 4 inches long. They appear in groups near the shoot tips or sometimes on the side of the shoots.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Corryocactus apiciflorus is common in the Peruvian regions of La Libertad , Ancash and Ayacucho .
It was first described as Cereus apiciflorus in 1913 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel . Paul Clifford Hutchison placed them in the genus Corryocactus in 1963 . A synonym is Erdisia apiciflora (Vaupel) Werderm. (1940).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
