Corryocactus brachypetalus is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet brachypetalus means 'short petals with short petals'.

Corryocactus brachypetalus grows from the base with richly branched, numerous, upright shoots with heights of up to 4 meters and forms large groups. The cloudy green shoots are 6 to 10 centimeters in diameter. There are seven to eight noticeable ribs . The up to 20 initially black thorns become lighter later. They are occasionally twisted and usually shorter than 1 centimeter. However, one or more of them are four to six inches long.

The broad, funnel-shaped, deep orange flowers measure 4 to 6 centimeters in diameter. The spherical, greenish yellow fruits are initially thorny and reach a diameter of 6 to 7 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Corryocactus brachypetalus is in the Peruvian region of Arequipa common.

It was first described as Cereus brachypetalus in 1913 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in the genus Corryocactus in 1920 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
