Corryocactus quadrangularis is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet quadrangularis means 'square'.

description

Corryocactus quadrangularis grows shrubby with spreading and sometimes hanging shoots from the base of 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter and reaches heights of 1 to 1.5 meters. There are four to five (rarely up to six) deep, wing-like, undulating ribs . The areoles on it are black felt, the thorns emerging from them are yellowish- white. The one or two strong central spines are 4 to 6 inches long. About six radial spines are formed.

The golden yellow to carmine red flowers are 4 to 5 centimeters long. The reddish green fruits have a diameter of up to 3 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Corryocactus quadrangularis is widespread in the Peruvian region of Ayacucho near Puquio at altitudes of 3300 meters.

It was first described as Erdisia quadrangularis in 1957 by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg . Friedrich Ritter placed the species in the genus Corryocactus in 1958 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
