reception
Influenced by pop culture , the film caused a sensation in Portugal and made director Joaquim Sapinho known as a beacon of hope for a young Portuguese cinema . It shows a young couple who are sexually and intellectually engaged with each other, trying to orient themselves in the rapidly changing Portugal between tradition and modernity and its engaging consumer society . On their nightly tour of Lisbon they also run into a group of violent and racist skinheads they are fleeing from and they meet a hip hop gang. Both groups are portrayed by authentic amateur actors from the respective youth subculture and reinforce the authenticity and realistic charisma of the 35 mm film, which occasionally shows parallels to the upcoming Dogma 95 film manifesto, for example in its reduced music and lighting, the lack of special effects and scenes of gun violence , and his focus on acting and action, which were staged exclusively in the original locations.
The film premiered at the 48th Locarno Film Festival in 1995 , where it was nominated for a Golden Leopard , and was released on March 1, 1996. It has been shown at numerous international film festivals and has won prizes and awards. a. in Geneva, Chicago, Valencia, and at the Premiers Plans Festival in Angers. He was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Actress at the Globos de Ouro in 1996 .
Corte de Cabelo was released on DVD by Rosa Filmes in Portugal in 2004, on the 10th anniversary of its release , after it had already been released as a VHS cassette by Lusomundo in 1996 .
