Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet maiz-tablasensis means 'from the location near Ciudad Maiz and Las Tablas (San Luis Potosi / Mexico)'.
description
Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis grows individually or later forms groups with spherical glaucous green to blue-green shoots that reach heights of up to 3 centimeters with diameters of 5 to 6 centimeters and hardly protrude above the ground surface. The conical to egg-shaped warts are up to 1.7 centimeters long and usually have no nectar glands . There are no central spines . The 4 to 6 (rarely up to 7) straight, whitish-gray radial spines are stiff and 7 to 13 millimeters long.
The flowers are yellow or creamy white. They are up to 2.7 inches long and reach a diameter of up to 4 inches. The fruits , which later turn red, are up to 1.8 centimeters long and have a diameter of 1 centimeter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis is distributed in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí on limestone and gypsum soils at altitudes of 900 to 1400 meters.
The first description was published in 1949 by Curt Backeberg .
Coryphantha maiz-tabla sensis is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. endangered, classified.
