Philipp Schauer
Philipp Schauer (born July 12, 1958 in Stockholm ) is a German diplomat . He has been ambassador to Ecuador since 2019 . From 2009 to 2013 he was ambassador to Bolivia , then to 2016 ambassador to Mozambique .
Life
After graduating from high school , he studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 1977 to 1982 . Since 1978 he has been a member of the Corps Hansea Bonn . After taking his state examinations , he was in the legal preparatory service in Schleswig-Holstein , Bordeaux and Berlin from 1984 to 1987 .
In 1987 he joined the diplomatic service and, after completing his training as an attaché in 1988, initially worked as an employee of the NATO department in the Foreign Office . At the same time in 1989 his doctorate to Dr. iur. at the University of Bonn with a dissertation on the peculiarity of state organization law and the freedom of political decision-making . He was then consul and press officer at the embassy in Venezuela until 1992 and then permanent representative of the ambassador in Mali . After his return to Germany, between 1994 and 1997 he worked at the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Ministry in the United Nations , United Nations Security Council and peace missions .
He then worked in the Political Department at the Embassy in the UK and also took part in an official exchange with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office . In 1999 he moved to the Embassy in Albania as coordinator for humanitarian aid and shortly afterwards returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Office as deputy head of the Balkans . After working as consul and permanent representative of the ambassador to Ethiopia with responsibility for politics and the African Union from 2003 to 2006, he was head of division for the United Nations, UN Security Council and the Africa program "Peace and Security" between 2006 and 2009 .
From 2009 Schauer was the successor of the retirement came Erich Riedler Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bolivia . In 2013 he took over the post of ambassador to Mozambique . In 2016 he was replaced by Detlev Wolter . From 2016 to 2019 he was Head of Unit 508 (Principle of Aliens, Asylum and Visa Law, Aliens Policy, Return Issues) at the Foreign Office.
Schauer has been accredited as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ecuador since August 2019 .
