Coryphantha potosiana is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet potosiana refers to the occurrence of the species in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí .

Coryphantha potosiana grows individually with spherical gray-green shoots up to 8 centimeters in diameter. The up to 8 millimeters long warts are conical in shape. Yellowish orange nectar glands are located in the axillae and in the furrows of the warts . The single central spine , which is usually missing, is protruding and slightly curved downwards. It is yellowish with a darker tip and 1.5 to 2.3 inches long. The twelve to 18 whitish, brown-tipped radial spines are radiating and interlocking.

The light tan to cream colored flowers are up to 2.2 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 2 centimeters. The initially cloudy green fruits are later tan. They have lengths of up to 1.2 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha potosiana is widespread in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí on ridges of hills with almost bare lava soil.

The first description as Mammillaria potosiana by Georg Albano von Jacobi was published in 1856. Charles Edward Glass and Robert Alan Foster put the species in the genus Coryphantha in 1971 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
