Life

origin

He was the son of Georg Arnold Jacobi (1768-1845) and his wife Marie Luise, née Brinckmann (1776-1845). His father was a privy councilor and general director of land and hydraulic engineering. His grandfather was the philosopher and writer Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi .

Military career

Jacobi attended high schools in Hamm , Soest and Düsseldorf . On August 21, 1822 he joined the 8th Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a gunner . Then in 1827 he became a second lieutenant in the Guards Artillery Brigade . His hope of going to the General War School was not fulfilled. So he decided to write about artillery. His work on the state of European field artillery (Mainz 1835-43) has been translated into many languages.

During the Baden Revolution he was with the Prussian troops. He was adjutant to Lieutenant General Wilhelm von Scharnhorst , who commanded the artillery of the Army of Operations on the Rhine. In the German War of 1866 he commanded the artillery of the 2nd Army , under Crown Prince Friedrich , in Bohemia. He later became the inspector of the first artillery inspection in Poznan. For health reasons, he no longer took part in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, but instead took his leave. He died in Berlin in 1874.

In addition to his military work, he was considered one of the greatest agave connoisseurs of the 19th century. He received 84 initial descriptions .

family

He was married to Ernestine Karoline Elisabeth von Bohlen (born May 8, 1820 in Bohlendorf; † January 30, 1899 in Berlin). The later General Albano von Jacobi was his son.
