Coryphantha pseudonickelsiae is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet pseudonickelsiae is derived from the Greek word pseudo for 'wrong' and refers to the similarity with Coryphantha nickelsiae .

description

Coryphantha pseudonickelsiae grows individually or in groups. The spherical shoots reach a diameter of up to 7 centimeters. The warts, which are up to 14 millimeters long and initially conical , later become rounded-pyramidal. Nectar glands are occasionally present. The single central spine , which can sometimes be missing on some areoles or appears late, is initially brown-black and later gray. It is protruding, curved downwards, strongly needle-like and 1.6 to 2 centimeters long. The 14 to 17 horn-colored to brownish graying radial spines are radiating, straight, needle-like and have lengths of 1.2 to 1.6 centimeters.

The yellow flowers reach a diameter of up to 3.5 centimeters. The green fruits have lengths of up to 2 centimeters and a diameter of 0.8 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha pseudonickelsiae is common in the northeast of the Mexican state Durango on lava gravel on hills and slopes.

The first description by Curt Backeberg was published in 1949.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
