Coryphantha pulleineana is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet pulleineana honors the Australian cactus lover Robert H. Pulleine from Adelaide .

description

Coryphantha pulleineana usually grows singly, rarely branches from the base and has bulbous roots . The narrow, cylindrical, dark gray-green shoots reach heights of up to 20 centimeters with diameters of 1.5 to 4.5 centimeters. The up to 10 millimeters long, strongly ascending warts are rounded and conical to ovoid. The axillae and the furrows on the warts are woolen white. Nectar glands are absent. The three to four brown to black central spines are straight, stiff, ascending and 1.5 to 2.8 inches long. The twelve to 18 unequal, grayish white radial spines have a darker tip and lengths of 1.3 to 1.5 centimeters.

The light to bright yellow or orange-yellow flowers reach lengths of up to 2.5 centimeters and diameters of 3 to 4 centimeters. The greenish fruits are juicy.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha pulleineana is common in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí in the area of Matehuala on hill sides with calcareous, sandy-gravelly soils at altitudes of 1430 to 1510 meters.

The first description as Neolloydia pulleineana by Curt Backeberg was published in 1948. Charles Edward Glass placed the species in the genus Coryphantha in 1968 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
