The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a Roman Catholic parish church in Oberwürzbach , a district of St. Ingbert , Saarpfalz district . She bears the patronage of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

Until the construction of the church, the Catholics of Oberwürzbach were part of the parish of Ommersheim . The first plans to build their own parish church from the years before the First World War could therefore not be implemented. After the war, the construction project threatened to fail due to inflation , but the construction succeeded with the available funds before they were completely devalued.

On June 11, 1922 the foundation stone was laid for the church building built according to plans by the architects Wilhelm Schulte II (Neustadt) and Forster. On July 22, 1923, the church was inaugurated by the Speyr bishop Ludwig Sebastian .

Sulzbach / Saar bought three bells from the Catholic community in 1930 , of which the two largest were melted down during the Second World War in 1942.

After the war damage had been repaired, the church was enlarged in the years 1950–1951 according to plans by the diocesan building councilor Wilhelm Schulte by adding an extension to the long western side of the building. Architect Kreischer took over the construction management and the necessary construction work was carried out by the St. Ingbert company Wittemann. A parish hall was set up in the basement of the extension building. The inauguration of the enlarged church took place on October 14, 1951 by Bishop Joseph Wendel .

From 1990 to 1993 the windows and roof were restored.

The cross on the church roof above the main altar was made by master locksmith Gerald Becker and master painter Ewald Schmitt (Oberwürzbach).

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1966 by the company Wolfgang Scherpf Orgelbau ( Speyer ). The instrument, with 27 registers and 2 manuals , is set up on a gallery and has a free-standing console . The wind chests are slider chests with an electric play and stop action . The salicional in the swell was installed later.
