Cosmarium reniforme , also known as kidney ornamental algae, is a species of algae from the group of ornamental algae (Desmidiales).
The cells are 46 to 57 micrometers long and 44 to 54 micrometers wide, making them medium-sized. The cells are deeply incised and elliptical in top view. The half-cells are kidney-shaped, from which the species epithet is derived. The membrane is covered with small warts. Between 30 and 33 of these warts are visible at the edge of each half-cell. The chloroplasts each contain two pyrenoids .
Occurrence
Cosmarium reniforme has been found in Europe, the Arctic and Australia. It occurs quite frequently in fresh water on lake shores, on the edges of ponds and pools. It is also found in the moss at source locations.
