Costantino Borsini

Costantino Borsini (born April 7, 1906 in Milan , † October 21, 1940 with Harmil in the Red Sea ) was an officer in the Italian Navy .

Borsini served from January 1940 with an Italian naval association in the Red Sea. After a few months on the colonial cruiser Eritrea , he was promoted to corvette captain and was given command of the destroyer Francesco Nullo . On October 21, 1940 he took up combat with several British cruisers and destroyers near Harmil Island. After Borsini's destroyer was hit several times and became incapable of maneuvering, he had the crew brought to safety and then went down with the ship. For this service he was awarded the highest Italian military medal of valor in gold .

The Italian Navy recently named a new patrol ship after Costantino Borsini.
