The Cottica ( Sranan Tongo : Kotika-liba ; liba = "river") is a river in the north of Suriname , in the districts of Marowijne and Commewijne .

It rises in the hills south of the small town of Moengo . At Moengo the Upper Cottica takes on the Patamaccakreek and the Ricanaukreek . Here a bridge of the so-called east-west connection crosses the river. Flowing northwards, the Cottica takes on the Coermotibo , which forms a bifurcation (river bifurcation) with the left side of the Marowijne , the Wanekreek, between the river basins of the Cottica and Marowijne . This bifurcation is navigable with small boats and is also used for rafting wood . In the so-called Young Coastal Plain, upstream at Marrondorf Tamarin, the Cottica turns to the west. It probably reached the Atlantic here earlier . Flowing westwards, the river below the Marron village of Wanhatti is connected to the Atlantic by the Oranje and Motkreek .

On the border with the Commewijne district , the Cottica takes up the left tributary Pericakreek . After another 20 km through the district Commewijne opens the Cottica above the plantation Alliance in Commewijne .

The catchment area covers approx. 2900 km².
