The Coughtrey Peninsula ( Spanish Península Sanavirón ) is a small, hook-shaped peninsula at the Danco Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located on the north side of the entrance to Skontorp Cove , a side bay of Paradise Harbor .
The Scottish geologist David Ferguson (1857-1936) made an initial mapping between 1913 and 1914. Ferguson mistakenly named it Coughtrey Island . It is named after the New Zealand physician Millen Coughtrey (1848–1908) from Dunedin, who came from Scotland . The peninsula has been the location of the Argentine Almirante Brown station since 1950 . The Spanish name of the peninsula is derived from the research vessel Sanavirón , which was used on seven Argentine expeditions to the Antarctic between 1948 and 1957.
