Country Garden (Chinese:碧桂園; Pinyin: Biguiyuan) is a real estate development company based in Foshan in the province of Guangdong in the family of Yang Guoqiang (Chinese:杨国强; Pinyin: Yáng Guoqiang). In 2018, it was ranked 353rd in the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest companies. To date, the company has sold properties to over 1,500,000 homeowners and employs over 124,000 people worldwide. The company's main market is the People's Republic of China . The company is also active in Australia and Malaysia .
Country Garden was founded in 1992 in Shunde (Guangdong). Founder Yang Guoqiang built the company from the ground up after previously working as a farmer and construction worker on construction sites. As it expanded, the company benefited greatly from the construction and economic boom in major Chinese cities. The company has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since April 20, 2007 . Five of its shareholders became billionaires when they went public. In 2005, founder and majority shareholder Yang Guoqiang transferred his shares in Country Garden to his daughter Yang Huiyan . She is the richest woman in China with a net worth of $ 20.8 billion in February 2019.
The company is now involved in the areas of real estate development, construction, furnishing and decoration, real estate management and hotel operations in a large number of locations worldwide. In 2014, Country Garden was the 6th largest real estate company in China by revenue.
In June 2018, Country Garden temporarily halted all safety inspection projects in China after an accident at its construction site in eastern Anhui Province that killed six people.
