Court Tomb by Ballymunterhiggin
The Court Tomb of Ballymunterhiggin ( Irish Baile Mhuintir Uiginn ) is about 2.0 km south of Ballyshannon near the border with County Leitrim in County Donegal in Ireland .
Ballymunterhiggin is one of the few "Central Court Tombs " (like Magheraghanrush ). The Court Tombs belong to the megalithic chamber tombs ( English chambered tombs ) of the British Isles . With around 400 specimens, they are found almost exclusively in Ulster in the north of Ireland or in Northern Ireland .
This large, unprotected grave lies in a 45.0 meter long grassy cairn , far from the nearest road. Two-chamber galleries are located at the east and west ends of the oval courtyard. There is an in situ situated fall over the access each gallery. The eponymous yard ( English court ) is entered from the south. Two adjacent side chambers open into the courtyard in the north. A third side chamber is on the west side of the entrance. The Court Tomb is heavily overgrown and the stones are covered with moss and lichen .
About 8.0 km west and west of Bundoran is the Passage Tomb of Magheracar .
