Courtney Allen Belger (born July 17, 1989 ) is an American basketball player .

career

The from St. Louis native Belger played from 2008 to 2012 at the state of Illinois situated Quincy University in his native United States. In his final season 2011/12 he scored an average of 11.3 points as well as 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 ball wins per encounter for the team of the second NCAA division in 27 missions.

In 2013, Belger moved to Germany as a professional basketball player and joined TV Ibbenbüren , with whom he was promoted from the second to the first regional league in spring 2014. In the 2014/15 season, Belger achieved top scores for Ibbenbüren in the first regional league, when he averaged 23.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 3.5 ball wins and was named best defense player in the specialist portal eurobasket.com Season in the Regionalliga West was chosen.

In the 2015/16 season he strengthened the Itzehoe Eagles in the 2. Bundesliga ProB , played in the spring season 2016 for the Australian club Kalamunda Eastern Suns (and later played there between his engagements in Germany) and was in the run-up to the 2016/17 season signed by Itzehoe's ProB competitor FC Schalke 04 . In his second year in Gelsenkirchen, where he played under coach Raphael Wilder , Belger reached the playoff semifinals with S04, which meant promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA due to the waiver of the later champions Elchingen . Belger was the Schalke's best scorer this season (16.5 points on average) and, with 4.3 assists per match, he posted another high for the team. After being promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA, his contract with Schalke 04 was extended. With 15 points per game, he was the second best scorer of S04 in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2018/19 season, he also scored an average of five assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. In the summer break of 2019, Belger hoped for first division offers, but then returned to Schalke.

Personal

His wife Ali Schwagmeyer also became a professional basketball player. She was among others under contract with Osnabrücker SC in the Bundesliga.
