Courtney Lawes (born February 23, 1989 in Hackney , London ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a second-line striker or winger for the England national team , the British and Irish Lions and the Northampton Saints .

childhood and education

Lawes was born in Hackney, but grew up in Northampton, not far from Franklin's Gardens rugby stadium . He attended Moulton College and played for the Northampton Old Scouts RFC. He took part in the 2009 Junior World Championship with England.

Career

Lawes made his debut in the 2007-08 season for the Saints, for whom he is active to this day. In his first season he was promoted to the English Premiership . With the Saints he won the European Challenge Cup in 2009 and 2014, the English championship in 2014, the Anglo-Welsh Cup in 2010 and made it to the final of the Heineken Cup in 2011 .

National team

Courtney Lawes made his debut for England in November 2009 against Australia . In 2011 he was nominated for the World Cup and was used in three games. Also in 2015 he was part of the English World Cup squad. At the Six Nations 2016 he won the Grand Slam with England. In 2017 he was part of the British and Irish Lions squad and came on two missions in the test series against New Zealand . In 2019 he was nominated for his third World Cup .
