Covas is a locality and former municipality in Portugal .

history

The village emerged as part of the settlement policy after the Reconquista , probably from the middle of the 12th century. Covas received its first town charter on March 15, 1514 by King D. Manuel . It remained a parish in Midões County until it was dissolved in 1853 and Tábua County was created at the same time, to which it has belonged ever since.

Covas was a community ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Tábua , in the Coimbra district . On June 30, 2011 the community had 1,084 inhabitants in an area of ​​17.4 km².

In the course of the municipal reorganization of Portugal on September 29, 2013, Covas was merged with Vila Nova de Oliveirinha to form the new municipality União das Freguesias de Covas e Vila Nova de Oliveirinha . The seat of the new community was Covas.
