The Cowie Nunatak is a massive and 1782 m high nunatak in the shape of a cliff in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises with a steep eastern flank 8 km west of the Detour Nunatak in the upper section of the Mackay Glacier .
The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it on November 4, 1999 after James Cowie, head of the Cape Roberts drilling project .
