The Cowie Bay ( mal. Teluk Cowie ) is a bay on the east coast of the island of Borneo . It belongs to the Malaysian state of Sabah and opens to the Celebes Sea . Administratively, it belongs to the Tawau District in the Tawau Division . Cowie Bay is the northern, Malaysian part of Sebuku Bay.
geography
The bay covers an area of approx. 120 km². At the end of the bay there is an extensive area of shallow water that is densely forested with mangrove swamps . The south side of the bay is bounded by the island of Sebatik Island .
history
The bay was named after William Clarke Cowie .
