Craig Herbertson

Craig Herbertson (born January 29, 1959 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish musician , songwriter and writer . He is known as a singer of Scottish and Irish songs. He is also a science fiction and fantasy writer.

Life

Craig Herbertson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. As the son of a jazz trumpeter , he became acquainted with swing at an early age . His uncle played in a skiffle band , his grandparents appeared in the theater and in vaudeville and were also musicians and folk singers.

In the early days, Craig played in experimental bands such as the Scottish new wave band "The Androids", which was reviewed on the New Musical Express and played on BBC Radio 1, and the Manchester funk / reggae band "I Giggle when I'm Tickled". He later rediscovered his folk roots and played with several bands such as "The Keltix", "Scotland the Band" and "Mc Alpine's Fusiliers".

He later gained experience as a street musician in Europe and America, from the metro in Paris to the river steamers on the Mississippi. During this time he learned to play the fiddle, mandolin , banjo , penny whistle and piano . In 1999 he was invited to sing at the dance spectacle "Celtic Life", where he recorded his first solo CD The Lullaby of Scotland , which contains some popular traditional songs as well as his own.

In 2004 he composed the song Hearts of Glory for the Hearts Great War Memorial Fund. This CD reached number 20 on the BBC Indie Charts .

Herbertson lives in Witten today
