The Crangonidae are a family from the order of the decapods (Decapoda). The species are long-tailed crabs , mostly known as shrimp .

features

Crangonidae are decapods with a shrimp-like habit. The body is somewhat flattened dorsoventrally (from top to bottom). Typical features are: The rostrum of the Carapace is very short. The robust first peraeopods are transformed into scissors in the form of a subchela , in which the end link is folded like a pocket knife against the massive base link. The remaining pairs of legs, including the second, are much less developed and can also carry chelae; they lack an exopodite . The carpus (a limb of the split bone ) is one- limbed .

The females carry the eggs with them until the Zoea larvae hatch, attached to special bristles on the underside of their pleons (abdomen).
