Crassostrea corteziensis or Cortez oyster is a species of oyster of the genus Crassostrea . It is being studied as an alternative to the Pacific oyster , whichdominates oyster farming.

Appearance

Crassostrea corteziensis has an isometric shell. During the 13-month growth period, it reaches a length of 71 mm, a thickness of 53 mm and a width of 25 mm. The growth takes place allometrically , at temperatures below 18 ° C it is slowed down.

Occurrence

The distribution area of Crassostrea corteziensis extends from the Gulf of California to Peru . However, the natural occurrences in the states of Sinaloa and Sonora have almost completely disappeared.
