Crepis commutata is a species of plant from the genus Pippau ( Crepis ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Crepis commutata is an annual stem therophyte that reaches heights of 10 to 50, rarely up to 75 centimeters. The milky juice doesn't smell noticeable. The stem is leafy and is mostly almost bare towards the top. The leaves are lyre-shaped and pinnate. The shell is 7 to 12 millimeters in size. The outer bracts are only half as long as the inner ones. The fruit base has 2 linear chaff leaves for each achene. The fruits are spindle-shaped and wingless. The marginal fruits are short beaked, the inner ones have a long beak. The pappus is 3 to 4 millimeters in size.

The flowering period extends from March to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 10.

Occurrence

Crepis commutata occurs in the northeastern Mediterranean and the Orient. The species grows in Phrygana and on dry pioneer and ruderal sites. In Crete it can be found at altitudes from 0 to 600, rarely up to 1200 meters.
