history

The property has been owned by the Earls of Erroll since the 17th century . Possibly out of financial consideration, they sold it to the Abernethy family in the 1730s . By the late 18th century, the Milne family had acquired the property, possibly through profits made by Patrick Milne in overseas trading. On his death in 1820, Milne bequeathed Crimonmogate to Charles Bannerman . At the time of his demise, the plans for the construction of today's manor house were already in progress. Archibald Simpson acted as the architect . Bannerman not only had Crimonmogate House built around 1825, but also developed the surrounding park landscape of the property previously described as treeless within 30 years. His son Alexander continued the work. He had the manor house redesigned and expanded in the 1860s. Towards the end of the 19th century, Crimonmogate came into the possession of the Carnegie family , who owned it for about a century and still hold a piece of land from the now-divided property to this day.
