Crimson Dawn is an Italian epic doom band from Milan that was formed in 2005.

history

The band was founded in winter 2005 by Dario Beretta and Emanuele Rastelli, who had known each other since 1996. Between January and April 2006 a first demo was recorded with A Dawn in Crimson . The recordings had taken place with the producer Mat Stanciou in the Elnor Studio , whereby Stanciou also played the drummer. Beretta took over the electric guitar and vocals, while Rastelli played the bass, electric guitar and keyboard. In the same year, material from the demo was used for the soundtrack of the film Guardiani dei Misteri . The project then paused until summer 2008.

In addition to Beretta, the band then consisted of the guitarist Marco Rusconi, the drummer Luca Lucchini, the singer Antonio Pecere, the keyboardist Emanuele Laghi and the bassist Alessandro Reggiani Romagnoli. The debut album In Strange Aeons… was recorded at Mat Stancious Elnor Studio in late 2012 and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studio before it was released in October 2013 via My Graveyard Productions . In the following year the group could be seen at various festivals such as the Italian Play It Doom Festival or the Maltese Malta Doom Metal Festival . In addition, the band held two gigs in Italy with Ghost . In the same year a first music video was released, which was created for the song Crimson Dawn . In 2015 the band wrote and recorded new songs. Before participating in Doom Over Vienna in November, the group released the EP At The Cemetery Gates in October , which includes three studio recordings and a live version of the previously unreleased song Checkmate in Red , recorded at the Malta Doom Metal Festival. The EP was recorded again with Mat Stanciou in Elnor Studio. In 2016, the group returned to Elnor Studio with Stanciou to record the second album Chronicles of an Undead Hunter . At the end of March 2017, the second album Chronicles of an Undead Hunter was released via Punishment 18 Records .

style

Lior "Steinmetal" Stein from metal-temple.com assigned the band to In Strange Aeons ... the Epic Doom in his review . The group is based on Doom Metal of the late 1970s and early 1980s, with similarities to Black Sabbath (both in the times of Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio ), Dio , Heavy Load , early Manilla Road and NWoBHM bands such as Witchfinder General and Angel Witch are audible. The use of a keyboard and fuzz are also characteristic , the vocals are very variable, even if atypical for Doom Metal. Jori van de Worp from lordsofmetal.nl also referred to the group as an epic doom band in his review of Chronicles of an Undead Hunter . It is often described as the Italian candlemass , and he found the comparison to be justified. He too heard similarities to Black Sabbath. The singing sometimes brings back memories of Dio's later singing. The songs had a typical symphonic character for an Italian band.
