Cristofano Gherardi
Cristofano Gherardi (born November 25, 1508 in Borgo San Sepolcro ; † April 4, 1556 ), also called Cristoforo Gherardi and Doceno (or Il Doceno), was an Italian mannerist painter in the late Renaissance . The focus of his work was in Florence and the surrounding Tuscany .
life and work
Gherardi was the pupil of the painter Raffaellino del Colle , through whom he met other well-known painters such as Rosso Fiorentino and Giorgio Vasari . He then became assistant to Vasari, who invited him to Florence in 1536 to help with the production of the decorations for Charles V's solemn entry into Florence. In 1537 Gherardi was banished from Florence. The exile was not lifted until 1554.
