Criterion Games (formerly Criterion Software ) is an English development studio for computer games and game engines with headquarters in Guildford . The company's best-known games, which are developed by the Criterion Games department, are the Burnout series and the first-person shooter Black . Criterion has also developed the RenderWare game engine , which is used in various games such as: B. GTA III is used.

In August 2004 the company was bought by Electronic Arts (EA) after Criterion was previously wholly owned by Canon UK. In September 2013 it was announced that Criterion Games had only 17 employees. In January 2014, the two founders Alexander Ward and Fiona Sperry left the studio.
