Johann Friedrich Wacker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Friedrich Wacker (* 1730 in Dresden ; † March 14, 1795 in Dresden) was a German electoral inspector of the collections of antiquities and the coin cabinet in Dresden, numismatist and important collector.

Johann Friedrich Wacker was in charge of the establishment of the coin cabinet in the Japanese Palace and suggested that Gottlob August Hölzer , in 1775, produce the draft of the rear wall of the " Colombarium to the Urns" in the "Japanese Palace", which was executed from 1781 to 1785 .

A conversation between Bartolomeo Cavaceppi and Wacker has been handed down, where Cavaceppi boasted "... that he would have added more than 200 antiques, mostly from other antiquities, of which over 100 would have gone to Germany and England as completely genuine and unharmed from Italy." Source: "The above-mentioned antiquities inspector Wacker had, for his own information, set up a copy of the Marbres de Dresden so that all restorations he discovered were illuminated in yellow."

The electoral librarian at the "Japanese Palace" Johann Christoph Adelung (from 1787 to 1806) acquired the collection of "archaeological dissertations" from the Wacker estate on behalf of the library (1797).

His successors were Wilhelm Gottlieb Becker (from 1795/1796 to 1813), Johann Gottfried Lipsius (from 1809 to 1818) (with whom Wacker was friends) and Heinrich Hase (from 1820 to 1842).
