Crosshouse is a village in Scotland and is in close proximity to the town of Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire .
history
Crosshouse was built in the early nineteenth century as a settlement for the miners who worked in the area's numerous collieries and was part of the Kilmaurs parish until 1882 . In 2011 Crosshouse had 2861 inhabitants. It houses the Crosshouse Hospital, inaugurated in 1982 as the successor to the old Kilmarnock Infirmary, a major employer in the region.
Personalities
- Andrew Fisher , multiple Prime Minister of Australia , was born in Crosshouse in 1862 as the son of a miner and worked there himself as a miner until he emigrated to Australia in 1885 .
- There is speculation that the Scottish national hero Sir William Wallace was not born in Elderslie near Paisley , as is generally assumed , but in Ellerslie near Crosshouse.
