Croxley (London Underground)
Croxley is an above-ground station on the London Underground . It is served by the Metropolitan Line , is in the Travelcard tariff zone 7 and is one of 14 stations outside Greater London . It is located at the intersection of Watford Road and Winston Drive in the village of Croxley Green , in the Three Rivers district of Hertfordshire . In 2013, 0.92 million passengers used the station.
The station was opened on November 2, 1925 under the name Croxley Green by the Metropolitan Railway (MR; predecessor of the Metropolitan Line). The line between Moor Park and Watford was the first of the MR to be electrified from the start. On the same day, a short link to Rickmansworth was opened. On March 23, 1949, the station was given its current name and on January 3, 1960, the scheduled operation on the link to Rickmansworth ended. However, since May 11, 1987, this has been used by several trains in the early morning.
There are plans to close the stretch between Croxley and Watford terminus. Instead, a new viaduct is to be built to connect to a railway line that has been closed since 1996. This leads to Watford Junction , the most important train station in the neighboring town of Watford . The Croxley Rail Link is scheduled to go into operation in 2015 or 2016.
