Croxley Green is a civil parish in England and a suburb of Rickmansworth in the Three Rivers district .

geography

Croxley Green is 17 miles (27 km) as the crow flies northwest of Charing Cross , London on the A412 and between the Chess and Gade rivers near their confluence. The Grand Union Canal runs almost parallel to the latter in the east and south-east of the village . On the left bank of the Gade lies the botanically remarkable Croxley Common Moor. River gravel that was exploited in gravel pits is superimposed on the limestone subsoil.

history

In Croxley Green stone tools from the Acheuléen have been identified as traces of prehistoric settlement .

The paper manufacturer John Dickinson opened the paper mill Croxley Mill on the "Grand Junction Canal" in 1830 (built in the 1790s and now part of the " Grand Union Canal "). Towards the end of the 19th century, the owners of the factory at the time also had houses built for the workers nearby. The paper mill was closed in 1980.

Croxley Common Moor with its diverse flora was declared an SSSI in 1986 . Also a wooded area south of the village consisting of Long Valley Wood and The Buddlejas was placed under protection in 2007 as a village green , a form of common land .

Architectural monuments

The tower of a windmill from around 1860 is now used for residential purposes. Several listed houses are in the vicinity of the green, i. H. des Angers to find. The neo-Gothic church All Saints south of the Green , built from 1870 to 1872, has also been a listed building since 1986 .

traffic

Croxley Green has a station with Croxley on the branch of the Metropolitan Line to Watford . The closed Watford and Rickmansworth Railway touches the place in the south. The Croxley Green terminus of the 1996 Watford High Street – Croxley Green railway was on the eastern edge of the town. Between Baldwins Lane in the north of Croxley Green and Ascot Road in Watford, a connection from the Metropolitan Line to the old route to Watford Junction is being built, which is to create a cross connection between the routes from London to Aylesbury and Bletchley as the Croxley Rail Link .
