Cryptocephalus globin collis is a beetle from the family of the beetle and the subfamily of cryptocephalinae (Cryptocephalinae).

features

The beetles have a body length of 6–8.5 mm. They have a compact body. The head, pronotum , shields and elytra are shimmering metallic green. The antennae and legs are black. Two distinct pits can be seen near the basal edge of the pronotum. The wing covers have a shoulder bulge at the base. The rear edge of the male's prothorax has two cusps or teeth. The width between the front hips is as large or slightly smaller than the hip width.

Similar species

Cryptocephalus globicollis belongs to the subgenus Cryptocephalus and there to the species complex of Cryptocephalus sericeus . In the species complex there are several greenish, shiny representatives that are very similar to Cryptocephalus globicollis , including the following:

  • Cryptocephalus castilianus - mostly dark blue metallic in color
  • Cryptocephalus hypochoeridis - the beetles are smaller
  • Cryptocephalus sericeus - slightly smaller; Differences in the pronotum border and puncturing

distribution

The occurrence of Cryptocephalus globicollis extends over the northwestern Mediterranean basin and includes the center and northeast of the Iberian Peninsula , southern France and northwestern Italy.

Way of life

The beetles can be seen from May to August. They feed mainly on pollen and nectar from various plants. These include in particular the common yarrow ( Achillea millefolium ), but also legumes , poppies and buttercups .
