Ctenichneumon panzeri is a parasitic wasp from the subfamily of Ichneumoninae .

features

The ichneumon wasps reach a body length of 10–15 mm. They have a black basic color. Tergites 2 and 3 are usually colored red. However, there is also a black shape. The parasitic wasps have a yellow rear edge on the third tergite and the following tergites. The antennae of the males usually have an orange sheen at the base. The male's visual field shows yellow inner rims and a small yellow spot underneath. The tag (scutellum) is yellow. The femora are colored orange. The tibiae are yellow.

distribution

The parasitic wasp species is widespread in Europe. It is also represented in the British Isles . In the south they occur as far as North Africa, in the east as far as Central Asia and Pakistan.

Way of life

The parasitic wasps are mainly observed in June and July. The following flight times can be derived from Georg Artmann-Graf's observations in Switzerland: the females fly from mid-June to early November, the males from early May to late August. The parasitic wasps fly to the flowers of hogweed ( Heracleum sphondylium ) and other umbellifers (Apiaceae). The females overwinter as adults under moss, under stones or in rotten dead wood. The wasps parasitize crawler various cutworm (Noctuidae), including the exclamation mark ( Agrotis exclamationis ), the turnip moth ( Agrotis segetum ), the black cutworm ( Agrotis ipsilon ), the Helicoverpa armigera ( Helicoverpa armigera ), beet armyworm and black C ( Xestia c -nigrum ).
