Cultrinae

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The Cultrinae are a subfamily of carp fish (Cyprinidae) that occurs exclusively in mainland Asia and on the Great Sunda Islands ( Sumatra , Java , Kalimantan ). The distribution center, the region with the greatest biodiversity, is China.

In early 2013, the 1860 by the Dutch was ichthyologist Pieter Bleeker erected subfamily Oxygastrinae for numerous hitherto Bärblingen (Danioninae) associated with East Asian species revalidated and cultrinae together with the Hypophthalmichthyinae, Opsariichthyinae, Squaliobarbinae and Xenocypridinae with Oxygastrinae synonymised .

features

The Cultrinae are 11 to 55 centimeters long and differ from other subfamilies mainly by their keeled belly. In most cases, your body is very flattened on the sides and covered by large, gently sloping scales. The mouth is terminal or uppermost , barbels are only present in the genus Pogobrama . In the throat there are two to three rows of curved, rearward-facing pharyngeal teeth . The sideline is complete. The dorsal fin is usually supported by three unbranched and seven branched fin rays, the long anal fin also has three unbranched fin rays. The caudal fin is deeply split. The diet of the Cultinen contains more animal food than that of the other carp fish subfamilies.
