The Cumpston Massif is a striking, 2070 m high massif with a flattened rocky peaks in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . It rises north-south and has a length of 14.5 km at the junction between the Lambert and Mellor glaciers in the Prince Charles Mountains .
The massif was discovered in November 1956 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named it after the Australian polar historian John Stanley Cumpston (1909-1986) from the Australian Foreign Ministry, who published a map of Antarctica in 1939 together with the cartographer Edward Percival Bayliss from the Australian Interior Ministry .
