The CURANUM AG , based in Munich, is a leading operator of senior residences, nursing facilities and Home Care in Germany. CURANUM AG has been part of the French Korian Group, the leading private provider of care and support services for senior citizens in Germany and Europe, and has been part of Korian Germany since 2013 . The company was founded in 1981 and offers inpatient long and short-term care and assisted living for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Company profile

Before the takeover in 2013, Curanum AG employed around 7,000 people and had a total of 77 facilities with around 7800 care places and 2075 apartments in assisted living. According to its own information, it has a market share of around one percent.

Sales revenue in 2014 was EUR 300.4 million and thus EUR 7 million above the previous year's level. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) were 37.6 million euros.

The services include inpatient long- and short-term care for all levels of care , apartments in assisted living and especially the care of people with dementia , palliative care and other special forms of care (eg. As Apalliker , young disabled, MS -Patients and addicts ). The Curanum facilities have concluded supply contracts with long-term care funds and social welfare providers.

The company also rents assisted-out apartments that are attached to the care centers and retirement homes. Catering services as well as laundry and cleaning services are provided by subsidiaries.

The Curanum Group also has an outpatient care service that offers care services for both the assisted apartments and those in need outside of the facilities.

history

The company was founded in 1981. In January 2006 the company took over seven nursing homes from the Dr. Lohbeck Group from North Rhine-Westphalia with 890 nursing places.

In October 2007, Curanum hit the headlines with an investment by financial investor Guy Wyser-Pratte with around 5 percent. The largest block of shares of 17.91 percent was held by Vatas Holding - controlled by Robert Hersov .

In autumn 2010 the previous chairman of the board was dismissed by the supervisory board. His successor on October 1st was Walther Wever, previously CFO of Varta and Managing Director of Varta Automotive. In May 2011 Curanum increased the capital by almost € 12 million by issuing approx. 6.5 million shares.

In June 2011, the investment company Triton acquired 17.22% in Curanum. Also in June 2011, Curanum opened its newest facility, the Curanum senior citizens' residence in Hennef-Mitte, in southern Westphalia.

On November 7, 2011, Curanum acquired six residential facilities from the Bremen-based Society for Living in Old Age .

Takeover by the Korian Group

The Korian Group, a French operator of 740 retirement homes, including more than 600 nursing homes and 85 rehabilitation clinics in France, Germany, Belgium and Italy, is the leading provider of care and nursing services for the elderly in Europe.

KORIAN Germany employs more than 21,000 people, operates 230 facilities (as of December 2017) with more than 25,000 inpatient care places and around 2,500 apartments in assisted living.

In September 2007 the Korian Group took over the Phönix Seniorenheime Beteiligungsgesellschaft GmbH , based in Füssen. At that time, Phönix operated 43 retirement homes in Germany. In September 2013, Phönix was incorporated into Curanum AG. The Korian Group has been represented by Korian Deutschland AG since 2007.

The Korian Groupe submitted a takeover offer to the Curanum shareholders on December 10, 2012. It operates almost 75,000 beds and has over 49,000 employees. Thereafter, the Korian Groupe holds 78.45% of Curanum AG.

Since July 1, 2017, Arno Schwalie has headed the KORIAN Germany Group as CEO of Curanum AG. Other members of the board of CURANUM AG are: Christian Gharieb (COO), Markus Scheitzach (CFO) and Eva Lettenmeier (CHRO).

On February 12, 2015, the company was merged with the Korian Group, and the remaining minority shareholders were redeemed and excluded by means of a squeeze-out . The listing was discontinued a short time later. At the beginning of 2015, Christian Zeltner, member of the board of CURANUM AG from April 1, 2014, and Susanne Momberg, member of the board of CURANUM AG from September 1, 2014, were appointed to the management of Phönix Seniorenzentren Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH and thus signed for the care company Korian Deutschland AG , Munich responsible as COO and CFO.

Locations

Before the takeover in 2013, Curanum AG employed around 7,000 people and operated 77 facilities throughout Germany with around 7,800 care places and 2075 apartments in assisted living. A particularly large number of facilities are located in Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The company's headquarters are in the Schwanthalerhöhe district of Munich , on Zirkus-Krone-Straße.
