Curt Habicht
Victor Curt Habicht (born May 16, 1883 in Oberstein an der Nahe ; † July 10, 1945 in Hanover ) was a German art historian, writer and professor.
Life
Habicht attended the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in Darmstadt until 1901 . After graduating from high school, he studied at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel with Adelbert Matthaei before joining the Imperial Navy in 1902 and becoming a lieutenant at sea . In 1906 he became active in the Corps Saxonia Kiel . He later studied at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg where he in 1911 with a thesis on Henry Thode to Dr. phil. received his doctorate . From February 1911 he was also an assistant at the art history department of the archaeological institute. In 1914 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Hanover and taught there as an associate professor . As a representative of this university, Habicht was a member of a three-person "combat committee" that organized the book burning in Hanover in 1933 . He gave a speech at the incineration itself. He had already joined the NSDAP on May 1, 1933. In 1935 he was proposed - albeit unsuccessfully - by the regional leadership of the NSDAP Südhannover-Braunschweig several times for a full professorship at the university.
