Construction of the Imago

The bright blue males reach a hind wing length of 37 to 45 millimeters, which makes them comparatively large. There is also a pronounced black basal spot in the hind wing. The females, however, are dark brown with a greenish mark. This extends along the top to a band that covers segments three and four. The sixth segment also includes a band.

Way of life

Cyanothemis simpsoni prefer sunny spots along rivers with lots of flotsam . There they lurk on the branches of their prey towering over the water.

Similar genera

Cyanothemis simpsoni is very similar to members of the genus Porpax .
