Systematics
without rank: Sauropsida
Superordinate : Scale lizards (Lepidosauria)
Order : Scale reptiles (Squamata)
without rank: Geckos (gekkota)
Family : Geckos (Gekkonidae)
Genre : Bow finger geckos
Scientific name
Cyrtodactylus
Gray , 1827
Forefoot of Cyrtodactylus marmoratus (formerly Gymnodactylus marmoratus )

The arch finger geckos ( Cyrtodactylus ) are a genus within the gecko family that do not have adhesive discs on their outer extremities. Their toes and fingers are angled in an upward arc and have large claws.

features

Due to the lack of adhesive discs on the extremities, the arch finger geckos live more often on the ground than sticky toe geckos. Their toes and fingers are angled in an upward curvature and have large claws. The head and torso are clearly flattened, while the eyes pop out. Tiny granular scales and striking longitudinal rows of large hump scales cover the back. The latter can also be found at the ends of the individual tail segments.

species

The genus of the arch finger geckos is the most species-rich among the Gekkota , it comprises 218 species (as of April 2016):

Formerly was Aegean naked fingers ( Mediodactylus kotschyi ) to the genus Cyrtodactylus counted, this European gecko, however, was in the genus Mediodactylus transferred, as well Mediodactylus walli Ingoldby, 1922. Abrae Cyrtodactylus , of Wells in 2002 by the Australian Art Cyrtodactylus tuberculatus split, is a nomen nudum and has no validity. Since 2009 representatives of the bow finger geckos have been discovered several times in East Timor . Probably there are at least seven different species of Cyrtodactylus . Four more of the discovered populations are not yet specified.
