The Danish Presidency is part of the fourth trio presidency led by Poland and taken over by Cyprus in the second half of 2012 .

Under the motto Europe at work , the Danish Presidency will focus on the challenges of overcoming the debt crisis . The dates were confirmed on December 15, 2011 and can be found on the official website of the Council Presidency.

In accordance with the schedule, the members of the cabinet of Helle Thorning-Schmidt (Prime Minister) took over the chairmanship of the various council formations from the Polish presidency on January 1, 2012 . The presidency of the European Council (the body of heads of state and government) has not rotated since the Treaty of Lisbon came into force , but is elected for two and a half years. Herman Van Rompuy has been in office since December 1, 2009 , who was confirmed for a second term at a summit of the European Council on March 1, 2012.

Priorities of the Danish Presidency

Unlike the previous trio presidencies from Spain, Belgium and Hungary, Poland, Denmark and Cyprus do not use a common logo . The logo was mainly designed in the colors red and white (gray), based on the Danish flag. The turn of the year 2011 to 2012 was symbolically incorporated into the logo.
