Det Danske Filminstitut (DFI for short, German  Das Dänisches Filminstitut ) is a state institution based in the Filmhuset (Das Filmhaus) in Gothersgade in central Copenhagen , which is subordinate to the Danish Ministry of Culture . Its main tasks include state funding for Danish films and their presentation at domestic and foreign film festivals as well as the import of foreign quality films .

The film institute emerged from the Filmfonden Foundation in 1972 and was merged with the State Film Center ( Statens Filmcentral ) and the Danish Film Museum ( Det Danske Filmmuseum ) in 1997 . The organization is divided into the four departments Production and Development, Audience and Promotion, Museum and Cinematheque and Administration. New Danish Screen , a special area for promoting talent, is a collaboration with the two Danish television stations Danmarks Radio and TV 2 .

In addition to a liaison committee (contact budget) , Det Danske Filminstitut is advised by the three film councils Rådet for spillefilm (feature film council), Rådet for kort- og dokumentarfilm (council for short and documentary films) and Museumsrådet (museum council).
