Kinematheken in Germany

In Germany , due to the cultural sovereignty of the federal states , cinematheques are usually subject to state politics and their budgets depend on the respective financial policy.

The most important German cinematheques try to coordinate their work twice a year in the coordination council of the cinematheque network and to develop joint projects.

In 1935, Henri Langlois and Georges Franju founded a film club "Cercle du cinéma" to show old films , from which in 1936 the Cinémathèque française emerged . The British Film Institute was founded in London in 1933. The same thing happened in 1935 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York with the establishment of the Film Library . In 1938 Henri Storck , André Thirifays and Pierre Vermeylen founded the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique. In the same year the international association of film archives, the Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film (FIAF), was founded.
