Henri Storck
Henri Storck (born September 5, 1907 in Ostend , Belgium , † September 17, 1999 in Uccle / Ukkel , Belgium) was a Belgian filmmaker, film director , documentary filmmaker and university lecturer .
Life
Storck directed, together with the Dutchman Joris Ivens , the 28-minute film Misère au Borinage ( Misère au Borinage), shot in 1933 , to which sound was added in 1963. The director took up the theme of the miserable living conditions in the coal region of Wallonia again in 1937 in his thirty-minute film Les Maisons de la misère (The Houses of Misery).
Until the 1980s, Storck worked in dozens of documentaries and feature films in various functions. This includes his roles as an actor in 1933 by Jean Vigo turned feature film Zéro de conduite (German: conduct insufficient ) and the 1976 by Chantal Akerman film shot Jeanne Dilman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles . One of the films he produced in 1958 was the film Les seigneurs de la forêt, with a text by Heinz Sielmann , about the animals in the jungle of what was then the Belgian Congo .
Storck founded the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique with André Thirifays and Pierre Vermeylen in 1938, based in Brussels . In 1959 he was a member of the jury at the First Moscow International Film Festival . From 1966 to 1968 he was a lecturer at the Institut des arts de diffusion in Brussels.
